Charts where the line does not move strictly from left to right along a single axis but instead follows a cyclical path—such as hourly trends within a day, daily trends within a week, daily or monthly trends within a year—are called spiral line charts. Since values overlap in cyclical patterns, this type of chart is not ideal for reading individual line values but is very effective for identifying overall cycle trends, seasonal value variations, and exceptional values within cycles.
