To avoid the issue of value representation being influenced by the physical size of geographic areas, hex maps are used, where all geographic units are shown with equal area. As the name suggests, these maps typically use hexagons to represent each unit, which allows for a high number of adjacent neighbors. However, other shapes can also be used. Since hex maps are designed to show only one value per unit, in cases where multiple data points exist, only the highest or most relevant value can be displayed.
