The biggest advantage of clustered bar charts that is used for comparing data with two categorical breakdowns, is that they provide more reasonable space to place axis labels. If the bars are long enough, subcategory names and data labels can even be written inside the bars instead of using separate legend. Due to the vertical arrangement, they also create a sense of hierarchy for the audience.
