Area charts are another type of chart we can use to display temporal data in a connected manner. They are as commonly used as column and line charts for visualizing a single dataset. Particularly useful for tracking cumulative data, area charts are one of the best ways to help the reader perceive the continuous evolution of a single dataset. The background areas can become visually obscured when multiple datasets are displayed together, therefore, area charts are more suitable for displaying a single dataset or non-overlapping datasets.
